Dr. Gabriela Obexer-Ruff, Swissuniversities, Bern

Short biography:
Gabriela Obexer-Ruff has been the coordinator of the National Programme for Equal Opportunities at Swiss Universities since 2004, based at the Secretariat General of the Rectors Conference/swissuniversities. She studied agronomy with a specialization in “Animal Sciences” at ETH Zürich. Her PhD was in the field of Immuno-and Molecular Genetics at the VetSuisse faculty, University of Bern. In the context of her PhD-thesis she was one of the founders of the Swiss Small Ruminant Sanitation Service. Since 1988 she has acquired funding and participated actively in numerous national and international research projects supported by Swiss as well as EU funding. She represented the faculty of Veterinary Medicine within the Commission of Gender Equality, University of Bern, where she worked on the steering committee. She is a member of the Commission of „Animal Genetic Resources” of the Federal Office of Agriculture as well as a member of the expert group „Observatoire Filière du Cheval“ of the Swiss National Stud. She regularly carries out conservation genetic studies into lynx for the KORA office. She is a mother of two children 20 and 23 years old.
