Program This short 1-day workshop explores the scientific drivers for an accelerator based THz source at SwissFEL. Being able to excite materials with THz pulses of variable wavelength and bandwidth, and study the temporal behavior of electronic and structural degrees of freedom, is of great importance. The workshop has sessions that address

* infrared optics including creation and new opportunities,
* static control of materials properties,
* theory of the static and the dynamic states of matter, and
* how we can dynamically control them at THz frequencies.
