Setup / Configuration

  • hemispherical electrostatic electron spectrometer with 2D detection (energy on one axis, emission angle in second axis)
  • angular acceptance <0.5° (energy-dispersive axis) x 60° (angle)-resolution 0.5°
  • kinetic energy range 0.. 2 3.5 keV-resolution 5 meV

  • ultra-high vacuum system equipped with x-ray source (1.2-1.5 keV), He discharge source (20-40 eV), electron diffraction and surface preparation facilities
  • one CF40 flange for attaching additional light sources (e.g. beamtime to attoline, synchrotron beamline)
  • dimensions: ca. 1.2 x 0.8 m2 x 2.5 m height

Photoelectron spectroscopy

Spectrometer
The image on the left-hand side shows the spectrometer during a move (without sample manipulator and He light source); the rack in the back contains all necessary electronics. On the right-hand side the same spectrometer fully equipped and attached to the attoline at ETHZ.

  Details
The mobile surface science experiment is dedicated to time-resolved photoemission and optical experiments from solids. There are several flanges available for various light sources (either with vacuum connection or with special viewports). One CF40 flange is equipped with a gate valve and differential pumping. Light incidence is on the horizontal plane at 45° from the spectrometer axis.
The energy-dispersive axis is horizontal, the angular axis vertical.
